Jays: Putting an End to the Vogelbach Experiment

Blue Jays News, ESPN Coverage

The Toronto Blue Jays have had a disappointing start to the 2024 season, and one of the biggest reasons has been the struggles of first baseman Daniel Vogelbach. Vogelbach was signed to a one-year, $1.5 million contract in the offseason, but he has been a major disappointment, batting just .190 with three home runs and 12 RBIs in 45 games.

Time for a Change?

Vogelbach's struggles have forced the Blue Jays to consider making a change at first base. The team has several other options at the position, including Brandon Belt, who was signed to a one-year, $10 million contract in the offseason, and prospect Spencer Horwitz.

Belt is a veteran first baseman who has been a consistent hitter throughout his career. He has a career batting average of .285 with 175 home runs and 603 RBIs. Horwitz is a top prospect who had a breakout season in the minors last year. He hit .321 with 25 home runs and 100 RBIs in 120 games.

If the Blue Jays make a change at first base, it will likely be in favor of Belt. Belt is a more experienced and proven hitter than Horwitz, and he is also a better fielder.
